Thessaloniki: Today the 1st Road Race for Panhellenic Fans’ Day – Everyone will run with the number “19” In The Name Of Alkis
“The seeds we have been sowing for three years are bearing fruit and have absolutely measurable results”
They were all there. Under the central motto “sports unite, they do not kill”. Wearing the jerseys of their favorite teams, people of all ages side by side—athletes, students, people with disabilities—with smiles in a road race, in order to send a powerful message against fan violence. Young and old alike wished to honor the memory of Alkis Kampanos, the 19-year-old who was brutally murdered in a blind fan-related attack on February 1st, 2022, in the Charilaou area. In red and yellow, light blue, black, and green jerseys, everyone wore the same number on their chest: 19, representing the years of the tragically lost student.
It is the first 10 and 5 kilometer road race organized by the “Structure February 1st, 2022 – In the Name of Alkis” within the framework of Panhellenic Fans’ Day, as established by the state.
The “Structure February 1st, 2022 – In the Name of Alkis”, a non-profit association based on Volunteerism, announces the organization of the 1st Road Race for PANHELLENIC FANS’ DAY.
Following a persistent 20-month struggle by the Structure, we succeeded and the Hellenic State designated February 1st as Panhellenic Fans’ Day (Government Gazette v.5085/2024 article 24).
GOALS OF THE ROAD RACE: To convey the following messages through mass participation: – We run to honor Panhellenic Fans’ Day. – We run to honor the memory of Alkis Kampanos. – We run with the jerseys and colors we love because it is our right, but also a symbolic move against violence.
DATE: Sunday morning, February 2nd, 2025. DISTANCE: It will be a 5 and 10 km race. LOCATION: Thessaloniki STARTING POINTS: For the 10 km, the Statue of Alexander the Great (at 11:00). For the 5 km, the intersection of Plastira and Alkis Kampanos streets (at 11:20). FINISH LINE: Statue of Alexander the Great. – All participants will run with the number 19.
The Race is held under the Auspices and support of the Region of Central Macedonia, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and EAS SEGAS.
