Where and how to begin?
Where and how to begin when this happens on February 1st, exactly 2 years since what happened to us…
Since what happened to our child, our brother, our Alkis…?
Our Alkis, it fell upon you and your family to become the beacons and symbols of change that will illuminate, INSTITUTIONALLY NOW, this society and its children when, at the very least, every 1st of February they will learn about you and be taught empathy and coexistence….
Shall we start from the beginning when 3 people communicated the transmutation of their pain into action and visited the family just a few days after the murder, complete strangers?
In what we submitted in writing, the very first item on the list of actions for the 1st and 3rd axes was our decision to fight for the State to designate:
February 1st as Panhellenic Fans’ Day.
We did not want a negative approach.
Shall we start from the fact that on the evening of that same day, when we sought out and met some other people to propose joining forces with this, as yet, unknown Structure, we were prepared to say, if asked, that we had about 25 people behind us… because we were ashamed to say that we were only 3?
Something that reminiscent of a tactic followed by another “Society of Friends” (Filiki Eteria) more than 2 centuries ago.
There are so many things we can start from (from the formal submission of our request to the Ministry of Culture in September 2022 to the positive recommendation sent to us by the competent department, from the continuous meetings with MPs to, to…).
Perhaps we will do so when we return later…
But for now, we will hold on only to the fact that perhaps for the first time, an opposition amendment is accepted by the government in a climate of unanimity in Parliament.
OUR ALKIS, OUR CHILD, OUR BROTHER, you no longer unite only the base of society, from which the Structure in your name originated…
You unite THE ENTIRE GREEK SOCIETY horizontally and vertically.

Usually, unprecedented events such as the murder of Alkis Kampanos are followed by phrases like “never again,” phrases that, no matter how well-intentioned, remain wishful thinking.
And even more often, they are followed by phrases like “nothing is going to change,” reflecting pessimism and resignation.
One year after the murder of Alkis (01.02.23), several thousand people started from the steps of what was then Gazi Street and marched to the city center, silent, with a candle in hand and wearing the jerseys and insignia of their teams.
Two years later, the representative of an organization originating from civil society is invited to a Parliamentary committee, speaks during the 3 minutes allotted to him regarding the application submitted to the State 17 months ago, his proposal becomes an amendment to a draft law on fan violence, and this amendment becomes a law of the State with the vote of almost all political forces and indeed, perhaps for the first time, an opposition amendment is accepted by the government in a climate of unanimity in Parliament.
February 1st is now officially the “Panhellenic Fans’ Day.”
ALKIS, our child, our brother, no longer unites only the base of society, from which the Structure in his name originated…
He unites THE ENTIRE GREEK SOCIETY horizontally and vertically.
Now, many actions can take place, institutionally now, such as the 2-hour educational program and its 14-hour evolution created by the Structure and submitted to the I.E.P. (Institute of Educational Policy).
Neither a lot of money nor special material means are required.
A small group of citizens suffices, such as the Structure 1st February 2022 – In the Name of Alkis , with strong elements of self-denial, romanticism, and values.
