You had not even reached your 19th year…
You did not have the time to live much…
Yet, you live on in many of us.
Perhaps, in many more than us.
Certainly, even more commemorate you.
It may seem strange, peculiar, even “far-fetched” for the above to occur in people who never met Alkis Kampanos in their lives…
But it is happening!
It is what we feel!
Alkis is our child.
Alkis is our brother.
Aris, Melina, Maria, it is happening.
It is what we feel.
To us, Alkis is a symbol of change.
First and foremost, of our own change.
We strive to become better.
Sometimes we succeed, other times we do not.
In the Name of Alkis, through actions and initiatives, we attempt to take small and large steps (with all the strength society grants us) towards empathy, coexistence, and the right to many colors.
We feel that the people whom everyone across Greece listens to and is moved by—due to their stance and what they have transmuted into so that “Alkis’ sacrifice is not in vain”—his parents, are not only in the same camp as us but on the same path.
James sing:
“Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul”.
Kostas Tournas wrote:
“I am Alkis
and I can now live through you,
as long as you know how…
to speak…
for me to speak to you…”.
We feel these, they express us to the fullest, we live them…
…and we have you with us.
